Severe monsoon flooding in West Bengal’s Dooars has reportedly swept away rhinos and trapped herds of elephants near Gorumara and Jaldapara. Forest officials, vets and disaster-response teams are conducting round-the-clock rescues, moving animals to higher ground and assessing casualties. Rising rivers and breached embankments have disrupted villages and roads, while authorities issue red alerts and advise caution amid continuing rain.
